Bags and cases
It’s likely that the first thing you’ll need is a decent case. Most laptop cases come in standard sizes, but often don’t differentiate between standard and widescreen, which can leave you with a bit of an odd fit. Here’s a rough guide – use the approximate bag size to search for what you need, and check the internal dimensions of the bag against your model to be sure that your lovely Chromebook will fit.
|Approximate laptop bag size||Format||Chromebook dimensions (mm)||Chromebook dimensions (inches)|
|Chromebook Pixel||12.1″||3:2||297.7 x 224.6 x 16.2 mm||11.72 x 8.84 x 0.64 inches|
|Samsung Series 3||11.6″||Widescreen||289.6 x 208.5 x 16.8 – 17.5 mm||11.40 x 8.09 x 0.69 inches|
|Acer C7||11.6″||Widescreen||285.0 x 202.0 x 27.35 mm||11.22 x 7.95 x 1.08 inches|
|Samsung Series 5||12.1″||4:3||292.1 x 215.9 x 21.08 mm||11.50 x 8.50 x 0.83 inches|
|HP Pavilion 14||14.1″||Widescreen||347.0 x 238.0 x 21.1 mm||13.66 x 9.37 x 0.83 inches|
It’s relatively easy to pick up bags for the Samsung Series 3 and Acer C7 – they are very standard sizes, and pretty much any 11.6″ widescreen case should work. Here’s a few choice options.
Similarly, the HP Pavilion 14 is a very standard size, using exactly the same shell as the Pavilion Sleekbook 14.

The Series 5 screen uses a 4:3 ratio, which is a little more unusual these days, so you’ll need to look out for cases that are a little less long. Chromebook Pixel users will have a tough time finding a snug fit given the unusual screen aspect ratio, but you can get close with the same cases.

Headphones & Headsets
You can use any regular headphones on any Chromebook – the Samsung Series 3 in particular has bizarrely great audio quality. In addition, every current Chromebook uses a combo headphone / mic jack, so you can plug in headphones with built in mics for better sound during your Hangouts. Alternatively, you can plug in USB headsets which should work pretty much the same.
More local storage
With the exception of the Acer C7, Chromebooks are light on local storage – you can store whatever you need to in Google Drive instead. However, for those times when you’re offline, you can cheaply supplement local storage with a decent USB stick or drive. Since all current Chromebooks also have memory card slots, you can also buy a flash card, slot it in and leave it there (some phones have SD card slots for the same reason). Bear in mind that not all memory cards go flush into the machine – for example, cards in the Series 3 end up sticking a few millimeters out.

Unlike an iPad, you can plug a regular USB mouse into a Chromebook. It’s likely that you won’t be able to use any special mouse buttons (like “browser back”) but the standard buttons and scrolling should work great.
